Think back to a piece of memorable advice you received from a parent, role model, or authority figure (the advice does not need to parallel that of “Mother to Son” in any way, although it can if applicable). What did you think of that advice? How did it make you feel? Did you accept it, disagree with it, or respond more ambivalently? Write a 20-line free verse poem that includes at least one metaphor and “replies” to the advice you received.
