Glow of the Everflame

Diem Bellator is the main character and first-person narrator of the novel. She is also the hero of the entire Kindred’s Curse Saga. Her mother is Auralie, her adoptive father is Andrei, and her younger brother is Teller. For as long as Diem can remember, she has defined herself by her family relationships. She has grown up with Andrei, Teller, and Auralie in a village outside of Mortal City that has always felt like home. She is also attached to her best friend and childhood sweetheart, Henri Albanon, although she now fears that time and circumstances are drawing them apart. Therefore, when the magical Crown appears above her head one night, Diem is convinced that the gods have made a mistake. She knows that they wouldn’t choose a mortal as the new Queen of Lumnos, and she doesn’t want to acknowledge that her estranged birth father might have been a Descended. Despite her doubts, Diem’s friends and family insist that the Crown is a sign of her destiny.

Diem’s sense of self changes when she moves out of her village and into the palace to accept her throne.
